The event ideas are obviously geared towards Town-like RPs, but if you can make them apply, then by all means, do so! I’d just like to say that howto-rp posted a similar post a couple of weeks ago and I didn’t realise she had until I was about 700 words in and I didn’t want to write all that just to delete it and have my time go to waste. Nevertheless, here’s her post. I hope mine is as well received and appreciated as her was! Here are some tips/tricks that came to mind when I got the following anon at a ridiculous hour I should not have been awake at:
First thing to keep in mind: How do I know my RPG is dying?
- The dashboard moves every so often, but it’s really not enough to be fun, but rather a bore.
- Members come and go every so often, never fully inactive, but not exactly active either.
Ok, now that I know what inactive is, how do I make it more active again?
Okay, first of all, I’d suggest some sort of OOC blog because in reality, the number one reason an RPG is able to last for a long time is because of the bonds the players make with each other. Obviously you want to make sure you don’t make a clique out of the roleplay and make it so that no one wants to apply because they heard the players were really, really close already - that’s intimidating and I’ve avoided joining a roleplay because of situations like that. But in reality, people are more inclined to post and be active (whether it be para, gif chat, or whatever) when their characters have friends and relationships with other people, and the players are more likely to build such relationships if they’ve talked to the player OOC. At least, I’m always more comfortable RPing and talking when I’ve talked to the person (whether it be through OOC blog or direct messaging [usually it’s the ooc blog]), but maybe that’s just me being me. But individual kind of sub-plots generated by the players are what keep roleplays up and running to be honest. People like their comfort zone, you know?
Secondly, ADVERTISE!! Create a sideblog for promotions; submit promotions to RPH/C/A’s that allow you to do so (keep in mind some do not); tag more of your posts with RP and RPG! Attract the attention of some new members if you think your current ones aren’t active enough.
Okay, my last suggestion would be to hold an event of some sort. Usually making it last a couple of days or more is a good idea since even if it’s an event that would typically only last a couple of hours, it’s hard for everyone to get on at the same time- especially if you’re a larger group since you’ll likely have people from many different timezones trying to partake in an event - it’s simply not possible to give everyone opportunity to participate if you only hold the event for a couple of hours! That was totally a run on sentence, I’m sorry. Advertise the event for a couple of days, maybe a week or two before you actually have the event take place so that all of your members have a chance to hear about it and let you know if they will be there on that day or not to participate. Some RPs like to create sideblogs (similar to the OOC blog) to announce different events. For example, in the RPG I used to admin we had a sideblog and we just had the URL be [thenameoftheroleplay]-events.tumblr.com and had members follow that page, that way you’re not cluttering your main page with event announcement. Do keep in mind that sometimes having such things on the main account though is a good idea since it shows people thinking about applying some creativity and effort on the admins part!
Here are some ideas for events that I think would be fun (some are overdone, some are ones I’ve only seen in one or two RPs [some of these are more geared towards RPs based around teenagers, other work universally age-wise]). Obviously, I am not the owner of any of these ideas, they are just events I’ve seen done, and done well and with success at that:
- DATE AUCTION: Donate money to charity, win a date (selling males or females works just fine, I’ve seen both done successfully). You’d have people RSVP to the event by sending a message to the main, then pair up people and have them para their dates. Keep in mind though that this idea really only works if you have an even number of males:females, or enough homosexuals to even it out. Additionally, normally at a date auction people would bid on who they want to go on a date with, and you can have your players do this is you like, but it has the potential to leave a character with no one bidding on them, and that’s no fun and only end up hurting the players feelings. However, it’s a fun event and I’ve met some of my favourite para partners though random pairings like this. It also gives the players the opportunity to branch out from their sphere of familiarity within the group and make some new friends!
- COTILLION: Or some similar type of ball - have the players of your females of whatever age girls are presented at come up with their presentation statements and have them post it on the dashboard! People can make their characters outfits on Polyvore (which I must admit, I love doing this); they can para dancing, slutty cotillion sex in some closet, maybe a Debutante’s presentation statement can get sabotaged by another Deb, someone can get left at their presentation escort-less, the possibilities for petty, FUN, but petty drama to occur are endless - plus, this kind of drama can be rather amusing. Obviously this isn’t exactly an event older characters can participate much in, however, if a character is a parent they can easily interact with their child who’s being presented into society, they can chat with other adults who’re at the event, maybe the player can write a self-para of the adult getting a little tipsy and embarrassing themselves or getting tipsy (again, I’m a fan of alcohol haha oops judge me) and reminiscing about the “glory days” and how much they miss being a Deb/Escort!
- MASKED BALL: Obviously, it’s pretty much the same sort of thing as the Cotillion idea, I just think that adding in masks gives it a little bit of a more dangerous, edgy atmosphere to the event. Plus, all kind of mischief can happen if everyone is wearing masks! People can pull pranks, meet strangers and spend a song or two dancing with them - you can hold the event in a huge building and someone can get lost. Where the Cotillion event is probably more geared towards the teenage grouping,
- SOMEONE TAKES OVER TOWN: If you want to go rather dramatic and incorporate something a little bit more interesting into a mere town RP plot, have an organisation invade the town (for a reason you come up with that you think fits) or a corrupt mayor be elected and totally close it off - create really strict rules such as no smoking, curfew, no drinking, etc. This one can be hard to pull off if everyone in the RPG isn’t up for it, and also could be hard to make realistic. But it would be a seriously awesome plot drop if you wanted to spice things up, yeah?
- NEW YEARS EVE/HOLIDAY PARTIES: Unfortunately, the frenzy part of the holiday season is pretty much over (Thanksgiving, Christmas [since many town RPs take place in the USA and these are possibly the two major holidays for the majority], Halloween, even the apocalypse passed!). But we still have a couple of days before New Years Eve so have your RP throw a celebration to bring in the new year folks! But it doesn’t have to be new years to throw a party. You’re the admin, hell, you can come up with your own bloody holiday the town is celebrating if you so desire! The town is what you make of it. Have a holiday to celebrate the founding of the town or something!
- WEDDING: If you can a roleplay with older characters (old enough to get married at least), a couple can get married to spruce up activity! Similar to Cotillion, you’d post and “Invite” which every character in the roleplay would “receive” (the player would see the post on the main/events blog) and RSVP to the invite via inbox or you can say something along the lines of Like this post if you’ll be here on this date to partake in the event and you can partner people up if you’d like, but a wedding is a little bit more free so it should probably be up to the players to find a para partner. Additionally, you don’t necessarily need to have characters in the RP get married, you could make up a couple if you wanted to, just to be able to have a wedding if none of the characters are currently in a position to get married. Similar drama to Cotillion would occur.
- SPORTING EVENT: Pretty self-explanatory. The high school (or the university/college depending on what you have set up school-wise in your roleplay) and a major rival team has a game and it’s one that everyone in the town just has to go to. Could be for any sport of your choosing, though basketball, soccer, football, and baseball tend to be sports people follow and they’re the most likely candidates for a super popular sporting event.
- CARNIVAL: Carnivals are a great place for dates or just to go and fool around with friends. You could have everything from rides, to food, to games, the whole shebang.
- STORM/INCLEMENT WEATHER: This is an event I personally have never actually seen done, but I think it’d be super cool and fun to try out. Basically my head canon for this is that a huge storm hits wherever you are and there’s a town-wide blackout. You’d need everyone on board for this, and it’d have to be a multi-day event, but nevertheless, it’d be so much fun and there’d be so much angst and so much potential for drama to ensue. And we all like making our characters lead dramatic lives, don’t even deny it! If you so desired, you could have all of the kids get stuck in school so they’re all together, or you could, again, do para partners such that two or more characters get stuck together somewhere and they need to take care of themselves. A pair is probably best in that senario, but a group para could work just as well.
In one RP I’m in, we tested out mini-paras for the events like a masquerade, cotillion, a wedding, and it worked rather well to be honest. Something simple like this is all you need at I really liked it. It’s quick, it’s fun, it’s just a nice, different way to RP than most people usually do and there’s no pressure to write a 5 paragraph novel for your para.
I genuinely hope this was helpful. Happy roleplaying, folks! x.

Here's a list of labels requested by anonymous. Feel free to message me letting me know anymore that I could add. None of these are meant to be offensive. They're just stereotypical labels. Example: Delilah is known as the hipster.

Recently, I’ve started to notice how hard it was to make up connections while writing up bios for your roleplay. So, under the cut are various connection ideas for your roleplay including many topics like love/hate/friendship/ect.
Welcome to admin 101. This is a guide by NYASPEAKS. This is part one of a series. This is my first guide so likes and reblogs would be encouraging.
Part 1: What is an Admin? Are you truly capable of being one? The basics of starting a roleplay are? Here's some basic s before you even start on themes. Its the plot, types of admins and a few do's and don'ts and vocabulary.
If you’re the main admin: Keep promoting/answering questions/updating things/stay active on your character
If you’re a co-admin: Actually help your main admin with the rp’s main page (and not just when they ask you to do something)/post with your characterIf you’re an already accepted member: Make some effort to plot and get involved/stay dedicated/post with your character/help the admins keep the dash active/participate in events and other things thee admins set up for you
If you’re a potential member: Don’t make whether you join or not based on who certain people ship and who runs the rp/send in your account/post on your account when you send it in

MASTERLIST OF UNDERUSED CITIES AND TOWNS,
Hey, guess what? Los Angeles and New York City aren’t the only cities that the roleplay world can use, y’know. Anyways, here’s a list of underused cities and towns of all 50 states in North America. This list includes some, not all.
